What’s Neue For Spring

Isn’t she lovely?
That’s one of my favorite shots from the recent fashion shoot I styled and produced for the annual Quest Spring Style Issue, which you can pick up on newsstands or click through online (see below). The look above features our gorgeous redhead muse, Annabel Vartanian, in a Marchesa strapless gown with gold embroidered detail (and oh-so-simple but stunning Tiffany round diamond earrings and the killer Kwiat white-and-yellow-diamond Legacy necklace, which you can also see these days in the window at Kwiat on Madison Avenue).
Annabel was a dream to shoot. It helps when you have some of the best fashions from the season, but it also helps to have a model who “gets” the clothes and wears them well.
For the shoot, I imagined what would happen when a pretty, young, fashionable thing goes out for a springtime stroll along Fifth Avenue and ambles into the impressive Neue Galerie, at 86th Street. I took inspiration from the old-world interiors—that grand yet gloriously intimate space that is the Neue—along with some of the works by Gustav Klimt, Erich Heckel, and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, among others, to set and frame some of my favorite pieces from the spring collections.
Check out the shoot by browsing below, and don't forget to take a look at some other must-reads from the Style Issue, including the Quest Best Dressed list and a piece I wrote about one of my favorite women, Patsy Tarr, and her favorite designer, Geoffrey Beene.
